Dining through the Decades

Part XIII: Supporting the communities of our employees, customers and consumers

Nov. 2, 2017 — For 65 years, we have made it our goal at Schwan’s Company to nurture a business culture that supports efforts to make a difference in the communities where we live and work. We focus our charitable efforts on programs that work to end hunger, promote youth education and leadership development, and provide essential services that advance healthier communities.

“At Schwan’s Company, one of our values is helping one another,” said Theresa Zaske, community relations manager. “Our company and the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation do these activities because it is the right thing to do, but also because we want to help build better communities where our employees, customers and consumers live and work.”

Whether it is by partnering with the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee, or sponsoring the Schwan’s USA CUP® tournament, there are several great examples of where our company and the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation have established meaningful partnerships. But, perhaps one of the most prominent and wide-spread partnerships has been with Feeding America.

Schwan’s Company established a relationship with Feeding America and its affiliated food banks in 2011. Since then, our company has donated more than 7 million pounds of food to its food banks. In 2016 alone, there was more than 1 million pounds of food donated and distributed to 40 food banks in 27 states. The Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation also donated $150,000.

As a part of a relief effort for the hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast Area and South Florida, our team and the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation donated $128,879 to the Houston Food Bank and Feeding South Florida.

Through the years, our team members have also held several food drives and supported affiliated food banks where we have larger employee populations. Some of the primary food banks that our company, the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation and our employees have supported through the years include:

  • Atlanta Community Food Bank in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Houston Food Bank in Houston, Texas.
  • Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • Second Harvest Heartland in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
  • Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • Feeding South Florida in Pembroke Park, Florida.
  • Kansas Food Bank in Wichita, Kansas.

Moving forward, we are eager to continue these efforts and give back to our communities.

“Dining through the Decades is a blog series commemorating our company’s 65 years of commitment, quality, growth and service with customers, consumers and employees all across the United States. We invite you to stay tuned throughout the year as we continue to share some of our company’s best stories and highlights of how we got to where we are now.”
